Killing Joke + PIG at the Regent

Let it be known that when Killing Joke comes to town (which isn’t often) everyone who is anyone will be in attendance, or at least that’s what it seemed like when the majority of Los Angeles showed up to a sold out Regent.

It was an evening to be had as long-time English rockers Killing Joke, finally made their doom and gloom return to Los Angeles for the Laugh At Your Peril 40th Anniversary Tour.

Best known for their “quasi-metal,” electronic and gothic sounds, as well as their ever-impactful sophomore album Night Time, brought their best efforts and put on a hell of a show with a career-spanning setlist.

Cold Cave + Black Marble + Choir Boy at the Regent

Dark wave duo Cold Cave wrapped up their month-long North American tour last evening at the Fonda Theatre. In true fashion, Wesley Eisold and Amy Lee graced the stage head to toe in black attire while a series of appropriately configured dark projections of flying bats and distorted imagery played amongst the backdrop. Cold Cave perform as a four-piece act with the two sole entities being Eisold and his wife Lee.

It was no surprise the venue became packed as the evening drew closer to Cold Cave taking the stage. Being the loudest of the three bands that played last evening, it only seemed appropriate to have all synths on full blast for a proper end to an epic tour.

Garbage + Cigarettes After Sex at Hollywood Forever

It was a momentous evening for both the living and the dead as American-Scottish band Garbage, graced the lawns of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. “Out of the 21 years that we’ve been a band, this is the first time we’ve played amongst the dead,” front-woman Shirley Manson said. “I am true goth girl at heart so this such an amazing experience for me, this is a spectacular night for us, a huge privilege. You have no idea what it means to us, and to celebrate our very final American show tonight with you all.”

As the band took the stage, fans who were so comfortably settled on their blankets towards the back of the lawn stood up to experience the caliber that is Garbage.

Peter Hook & the Light at the Wiltern

Concert goers were in for a real treat as fans lined up around the block of The Wiltern Theatre to catch legendary bassist, Peter Hook. Fresh off of playing the first two shows of the Substance tour at New York’s Webster Hall, Hooky and The Light made their way to Los Angeles the following day.

Fans proudly rocked their iconic successive pulse shirts — they key imagery that represents Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album, filling in a packed venue. The merch line moved slow and steady as devotees lined up to purchase memorabilia, some of which was exclusively signed by Hooky himself.
